DISCUSSION 2: HEALTH
According to (Compton WC & Hoffman E, 2013) in their research on positive health, stated that the biggest assumption of the early years was the notion that corporeal well-being and liveliness are the only contributing factors to the mental wellbeing of a person. Even in the ancient age it was believed that mental issues emanate from some chemical imbalance in the human body and for the longest of time scientists separated psychological aspects of a human from the physiological and further argued that these are not interlinked. This separation is vivid in the earlier definition of health, where health is defined as the nonexistence of sicknesses and bugs in a human body. Only later when organizations such as WHO and other scientists explored and expanded the scope of physical health did we find the link between physiological and psychological aspect that contribute to the wellbeing of a person. Furthermore, the definition of physical health was defined taking into cognisance the aspect of psychological factors and health is now defined as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of diseases and infirmity” (WHO, 1946). Now this definition puts psychological factors in the forefront of the aspects that are contributing in the health of a human and further suggests that one cannot define the state of a person’s health without taking into consideration their psychological state.
In this piece of work firstly, I will be looking at the state of my health in relation to the assessment already done and the theories covered in research. Secondly, outline the factors that are affecting the state of my health and further look into remedial action that I can implement to improve the state of my health.
